Bikes and TDF

Just looking at today’s Cycling Weekly and the technical reports bikes are certainly getting a whole lot more technical and expensive.

Electronic gears are the normal in the Peleton these days and Shimano have introduced a 11 electronic Ultegra gear range. Mind boggling stuff but does it make you go faster quicker? Probably not, but it looks and performs so well.

There is something to be said though for the humble fixed wheel Time Trial bike. It’s basic concept hasn’t changed much but some machines look more sexy than others. Take mine for example. I rode it at Hillingdon circuit last night in a 10 mile TT. And was quite pleased when  rider caught me but couldn’t put any really distance between us and he was riding his carbon dream machine compared to a steel framed fixed. Made me feel good.
